So, you want to know a bit more about the gal behind the joystick, huh? Well, buckle up buttercup, because it’s about to get real (and maybe a little bit pixelated!). I’m Naomi Westmoor, and I’m a Toronto-based arcade enthusiast, vintage game lover, and all-around champion for women in gaming. Basically, if it involves flashing lights, high scores, and a killer sense of nostalgia, I’m SO there.
My love affair with arcades started way back when, during those glorious after-school trips to the local pizza joint. While the boys were busy battling aliens, I was mastering Ms. Pac-Man, racking up points, and plotting my domination of the high-score charts. I quickly realized that arcades weren’t just a place to burn through quarters; they were a social hub, a place to challenge yourself, and a space where anyone could be a hero.
Fast forward a few years (okay, maybe more than a few!), and my passion for arcades hasn’t faded one bit. In fact, it’s only grown stronger! I’ve witnessed the incredible resurgence of the arcade scene in Canada, with amazing barcades popping up from coast to coast. And I’m especially thrilled to see more and more women embracing the joystick and claiming their rightful place in gaming culture. These
